Gonzalo Goytisolo

The works of Gonzalo Goytisolo (Barcelona, 1966) supplement the rich European memory of urban landscape, to which he joins a personal hyper-realist touch: he does not limit himself to representing the external aspect of a city, but manages also to retain his special atmosphere. Possessed of an excellent technical quality, his work implies a constant investigation round painting. Many of his current pictures originate in a digital photograph of a previous painting. This is altered by way of digital retouching, and then printed on a photographic support onto which he paints. The game is played via different treatments of a single motif, as in the series Archipiélago or in the nocturnes Mother night. Barcelona is the theme chosen by Goytisolo for his recent exhibition at the Sala Parés (Barcelona, 2008). The artist insists on offering us a panoramic view of the city with its singular buildings, its sea, changes in light, and, above all, its sky, endowed with a major role.
