Otto Cavalcanti

The artistic career of the Brazilian artist Otto Cavalcanti began in Itabaiana, his home town. In 1963 he arrived in Europe, where he lived for 5 years in Madrid, followed by 13 years in Barcelona and then 3 years in England, exhibiting his work all the time. He also spent time in Paris, where he exhibited at the Grand Palais. He finally returned to Barcelona, his adoptive city. All his imaginative work can be divided into two major styles: soft forms and hard forms. The latter include the geometrical portraits that he himself calls «combinistas» («combinationary»), and which include portraits of King Juan Carlos, Felipe González, Pope John Paul II and Jordi Pujol.
