Frederic Amat
The work of Frederic Amat (Barcelona, 1952) is linked to 1970s experimental and conceptual trends and is characterised by his particular iconography and the use of unconventional materials. Amat’s work shows the trace of his numerous trips to India, North Africa and Mexico. In it, we find references that range from the Catalan Romanesque to primitive arts, Miró, Picasso, and Tapies. Amat is a multifaceted creator who has experimented with media as different as ceramics, mural art, illustration, scenery design, engraving, and the cinema. His work has been shown at relevant institutions such as the Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, the Fundació La Caixa, the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Oaxaca, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, and the Miró Foundation, among others. In 2002 he was awarded the prestigious Premio de la Ciudad de Barcelona.
